Introduction of Mr .Chul-Hyang Kim
Biography
Mr. Chul-Hyang KIM is a professional painter. He was born in 1955 in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture of Jilin Province, China. He first studied Fine Arts in the Northeast Normal University of China in 1980-1984 and then further studied in the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) of China in 1992. In 1991, he held his first solo painting exhibition in South Korea. Thereafter he has held 18 solo painting exhibitions in Southeast Asia, Europe and the U.S., and his works were shown in over 100 international collective exhibitions. Currently, over 200 oil paintings of Chul-Hyan Kim have been collected by governments, art galleries, international corporate groups and friends. Chul-Hyang has lived and worked abroad for 18 years. In 2009, he returned to reside in China upon an invitation extended by Professor Yanzhou LI of CAFA. Currently, Chul-Hyan continues his dedication to oil painting in Beijing and Nanjing.
Artistic style
Surreal and pure beauty has become his signature style. In his paintings, the self has become one with nature and the soul is close to human nature and the eternal universe. His surreal and pure works cleanse and transcend hardships in life and conflicts in societies; expressing the fundamental law that living beings are in harmony with nature. This is the inherent style Kim has maintained amongst his various trends of painting.
Chul-Hyang Kim grew up in the Changbai Mountains and he admires art and has loved painting ever since childhood. The ever-changing and colorful clouds of Changbai Mountains natured his artistic spirit and the grand and majestic Mountains endowed him with a sunny disposition and broadmindedness. In the historic Chinese Cultural Revolution of the last century, he experienced unforgettable suffering. Misfortune, however, neither cooled down his enthusiasm for life nor dampened his pursuit of and dedication to art. From many years of wandering abroad, he actively imbibed essences of culture and arts of different nations. After returning to China, various hardships enabled his works to not only reflect the pursuit of beauty, but also broader thinking and thus demonstrating intriguing thought and exploration.
Chul-Hyang Kim rides freely in the space of thinking, and enjoys the building of an imaginary world and is known as a free-spirited artist. His wonderful artistic imaginations stimulate people’s yearning for beauty, and awaken people to cast aside the ugly in the complex world. He believes that no matter how fickle the world is, people’s longing for beauty and good is eternal, as nature is the source of all beauty. From his paintings one can feel the painter’s aspiration for peace and progress. Chul-Hyang Kim's works are clear and pure, and they enable people to eliminate their feeling of being enclosed and in darkness. That is the power contained in Chul-Hyang Kim's works.
